About Martin Docherty (me)
After leaving school Martin had several jobs including running a motorcycle repair garage & delivering cars to/from the docks. These cars were being exported/imported. Martin acquired a van & setup his own delivery business which lead to a raft of work for bands / record companies and eventually leading to work as a Stage manager / Tour manager & Promoter.

Working with bands like The Sisters of Mercy, Saxon & many others Martin toured the USA / Europe / UK plus acting as Stage Manager at the Lyceum & Electric Ballroom in London as well as many concerts at Londons Hammersmith Odeon & Hammersmith Palais.

One thing leading to another Martin did some merchandising as well as helping a TV company with a series of televised LIVE recorded concerts for the newly launched Chanel 4, working on a program called 'Whatever you Want'.

The Merchanding made Martin aware of various short commings in the supply of garments (mostly T/Shirts & Polo shirts) so Martin set about sourcing his own branded / specified printable garments from Turkey, India & eventually Pakistan. Some of the bands Martin provided merchandising for include The Cult, Theater of Hate (Spear of Destiny), The Damned, New Model Army. The Smiths and many more.

The clothing business developed & was eventually branded RAW (Raw Clothing). Why RAW? The reason for the name was simple, many of our garments were made from RAW unbleached natural cotton. These environmentally friendly cotton garments sold to the likes of Greenpeace & friends of the earth plus shops like H&M, Top Shop, Harrods & Liberty plus a plethora of boutiques as well as bulk selling to printers & merchandisers. Using 100% cotton thread meant that garments could be batched dyed here in the UK making the product extreamly flexible.

In about 1996 Martin built his first website for his RAW brand, being rather hands on he built the firms website himself and he also wrote a series of articals for the trade press about the 'new Internet' and how to access it's potential. In about 2001 Martin started developing his MySQLDatabase skills along with learning PHP to supliment his HTML knowledge. Martin now has 23 years experience in building database driven website.

Given the above you can understand that Martin has knowledge of just about every aspect of clothing wholesale & retail (including manufacturing). Plus marketing experience & a good knowledge of product sourcing both inside & outside the UK and EU. "I understand stock control better than most 'programmers' & I don't think there are many PHP / MySQL coders that were concert promoters". Martin is also familiar with brand building & Environment issues.

The above is a brief outline of my experience. If you think I might be able to help you with your project / business please get in touch.
